Manolas clause lets Chelsea in

Chelsea have informed Roma that they are ready to pay the €38m release clause for centre-back Kostas Manolas, it’s suggested.

Interest in the Greek international was already well known, especially as Maurizio Sarri is due to take over from Antonio Conte.

According to Sportitalia, there was a meeting behind closed doors in which Chelsea informed Roma of their intention to activate the clause.

Now they must work out personal terms with Manolas and convince him to make the transfer to London.

He had been heavily linked with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the past, but remained at Roma.

Manolas just turned 27 and has been at the Olimpico since 2014, when leaving Olympiacos for €15m.

This would be the second defender from Serie A, because Chelsea are also very close to Sarri’s old favourite Daniele Rugani in a €35m deal with Juventus.
