Coppa Italia decides Europa places

The outcome of tonight’s Coppa Italia Final between Juventus and Milan will also decide who enters the Europa League and when.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

If Milan lift the trophy, then they will automatically be qualified for the Europa League group stage next season.

However, if the Rossoneri don’t finish in the top six, then Milan and the team in fifth place (currently Inter) would enter the group stage, with sixth going through the preliminary round.

If Milan do finish in the top six and win the Coppa, then they’ll go into the group stage with fifth, while the team in seventh will enter the preliminary round.

If Juventus win the Coppa Italia, then the fifth and sixth teams will go into the Europa League, while the side in seventh has to go through three preliminary rounds starting in July.

Milan are currently in sixth place on 60 points, followed by Atalanta on 59, Fiorentina 57 and Sampdoria 54.
