Rumours continue to grow that Napoli are preparing for life without Coach Maurizio Sarri next season.
The tactician is under contract until 2021, but talks over a renewal were delayed until the end of the season.
Sarri spent most of his career working in the lower divisions and feels his work with the Partenopei should be financially rewarded, so he’s seeking a contract of €4m per season.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is only willing to offer €3.5m, and the Coach has repeatedly delayed actual negotiations.
Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Sarri is also asking for a big summer transfer campaign, as he’s unhappy with the club’s focus on young players.
The likes of Amadou Diawara, Marko Rog and Adam Ounas have all joined in recent seasons, but have barely been used by Sarri.
According to the newspaper, it’s unlikely that the two parties will agree and Sarri is likely to move on, perhaps to Chelsea.
De Laurentiis is running out of patience, and wants to meet with Sarri to get a final yes or no answer.
Marco Giampaolo and Simone Inzaghi are thought to be potential replacements, with Antonio Conte also linked last night.
Gazzetta also reports that there will be player sales, with the squad having agreed to stay together this year and try to win the Scudetto.
That’s still possible for Napoli, but they trail Juventus by four points with only three games to play.
Either Jorginho or Kalidou Koulibaly is likely to leave, while Dries Mertens has a €28m release clause for foreign clubs.
Pepe Reina has already agreed to join Milan, and could pay his final farewell to the San Paolo against Torino this weekend, with Luigi Sepe stepping in for the final two matches.
